MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD

Hello all,

I have been getting Memory Management blue screens for the past week. The blue screens have some patterns. Upon my initial boot of the computer, I almost always get a bluescreen right after I type in my password and enter into Windows. However, after the restart because of the bluescreen, the computer can potentially run fine for hours. Other than the common boot BSOD, bluescreens within the OS itself are less frequent but do happen.  Once, it bluescreened in the middle of a shutdown.

I've tried checking for outdated drivers (via device manager - no avail), including graphics cards drivers. I've run a Windows Memory Diagnostic which returned no errors and I also ran Memtest86 (4 passes), which also showed no errors. Suspecting the error might have been in the hard drive, I ran chkdsk, sfc scannow, and tried to clean up the hard drive which still has not fixed my problem.

Right now, I suspect the error may be in compatibility of programs or a virus. I haven't had an antivirus for a few weeks as my subscription expired, and hadn't gotten around to renewing it. I have just recently renewed it and ran a full system scan, but no issues were found that solved the problem. Regarding compatibility, I haven't downloaded anything that could've caused compatibility issues (after looking at my recently downloaded applications), but it may be a possibility.

If you have any ideas, all help would be greatly appreciated!

I have my specs listed below (Custom Built):

MSI H110M Gaming Motherboard

2 Sticks of 8 GB RAM G.Skill

Intel i5 6500

EVGA GTX 1060

WD Blue 1TB Hard Drive

Corsair CX 500W PSW

Thanks!

Hi Rick

Have you tried swapping out the RAM sticks to further isolate and determine if one might be defective?

You can also ensure RAM sticks are installed slots 1 and 3.

I would perform another scan using memtest86 to see if it finds errors not discovered by Windows 10's memory diagnostics.

There is also a BIOS update from July 2018, I would make sure that has been applied:

Hi Rick, to diagnose the underlying issue, I need to analyse your Mini-dump file(s):

Open Windows File Explorer

Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump

Zip up the contents of that folder

If you have problems zipping those files, copy them out onto your Desktop and zip them from there

Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)

Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Hi,

I can't seem to find my Minidump files anywhere. I've navigated to Windows in the C drive and can only find media, Microsoft.net, Migration, and Modern Logs. I tried enabling it in the control panel, but it is already set to Automatic memory dump.

Any idea where I can find them?

Hey,

I updated the BIOS, will let you know if that fixes the problem. I've also swapped the RAM sticks to see if that'll fix the issue.

Thanks for your response!

Hey,

Unfortunately, swapping the RAM hasn't worked. I also re-ran the mem test program and didn't find any new errors.

I'm at a loss of ideas at this point. Is there any way I can make certain that this isn't a hardware issue (other than RAM Diagnostics) before I attempt any Windows reinstallation/restoration from backup?

Thanks!

Did you also apply the BIOS update or is it also updated?

Also, I would try performing a clean install to see if that works.

I've applied the July BIOS update, but haven't seen any change.

I've noticed that booting into safe mode doesn't result in the bluescreens that normally happen upon first boots and shutdowns. I'm not sure if that hints at it being mostly software related, but I thought it might be important to mention.

I'm going to reinstall probably, thanks for all of your help!

If its not happening in Safe Mode, then its likely hardware driver thats the culprit.

Do you have a couple of spare sticks of RAM you could borrow from another computer?

Previously, I've only checked in device manager for possible drivers that needed to be updated and found none, so I'm not sure if drivers are still a possibility.

Unfortunately, the only RAM available is from an older computer from the early 2000s that isn't likely compatible with my current computer.
