OneDrive gives error "Input string was not in a correct format" when trying to upload a file to a shared folder

Hi,

I keep getting the following error ("Input string was not in a correct format") in web OneDrive when I try to upload a file. Please find the details below.

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise

Browser: Chrome (Version 81.0.4044.129 (Official Build) (64-bit))

File type: MP4

File size: 131MB

Filename: A20 MX1 A2B Thursday.mp4

Folder type: Online shared folder

Access: No issues with access to the folder. I can upload other files there (text file) and other people can upload video files as well with the same format.

This is a re-creatable issue with different browsers (tried Brave browser) as well.

Thanks

Dear Ms,

You could try to upload again but first in order to do a test, re-name file with a short name, like for example with only one word. (You can create a copy and re-name it, then upload it).

Regards,
Renzo.

Hi Renzo,

Thanks for the suggestion. I renamed it to be "a.mp4" and still get the same result.

Cheers

Do you have same result if you upload the file to a normal folder? I mean, you says that you are trying to upload to a "Shared folder", that folder, is from your own Onedrive cloud or a person who shared with you?
Try this, in a inPrivate/incognito browser mode (Ctrl+Shift+N), go to, https://onedrive.live.com, access with your personal account, and do same process.

By other, you can use Onedrive client, instead the browser, is more secure and stable when you upload large files.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I get the same error when I upload this file to my own one drive folder in my account.

The original folder I was trying to upload is someone else's. But I don't think it is the problem here since I get the same error for my own folder as well.

Perhaps Onedrive client might able to sync it to my online cloud account but since I need to copy the video to a shared folder someone else owns, then I have to share the file to him/her and ask them to add it to their folder which is a trouble for them.

Well, you could sync shared folders with your Onedrive client to your computer, see below information:
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/add-an...
So, after to add shared folders to your Onedrive, they will sync with your computer.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your workaround suggestion and I highly appreciate that. But I don't believe that uploading a file to a folder should be this much complicated. I believe this is a bug in OneDrive and they (Microsoft) should fix it as below, there is another case similar to this.

Thanks again.

Well, you totally right, is look like a bug itself, so, I suggest you to send your feedback to Product Group through, Onedrive for the web UserVoice, is the right way to communicate with PG, they always see ideas and suggestions from community users,
