My controller will turn on the xbox 360 by pressing the button on the controller. But once the xbox has booted up, lights flash but the two won't sync. I've tried the sync buttons on both the xbox and controller in every conceivable combination but the two won't recognize. When synch buttons are pressed the two devices will have rotating lights and then they seem to "recognize" but they don't. Once the xbox is on the controller has no effect on it. This does the same thing whether the usb cable is connected or not.

Does the Xbox boot all the way to the dashboard. And you can see the image on the T.V?

Have you tried connecting the controller with the play and charge kit. The kit automatically syncs the controller to the xbox.

yes.. boots all the way to dashboard... but then I'm stuck. Controller won't have any effect other than to turn on console. It won't turn it off.
yes... have tried play and charge kit. Doesn't help... makes no difference.
Thanks for the help... any other ideas? Am thinking of simply going to BestBuy and getting a wired controller.... thinking that it is probably a controller issue.

Greetings, peegee dub. When did you notice this issue begin? Does re-attaching the battery pack fix the issue? In addition have you tried power cycling the console? If you have a headset attached I would recommend detaching it and trying again to pair it to your Xbox. Give these steps a shot and let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Do you actually have a original XBOX 360 Wireless controller (and not a 3rd party manufacturer's like CodeJunkies?) They informed Microsoft that there is an incompatibility issue with their 3rd party controllers and that a firmware update is required for the controllers to work correctly with the XBOX 360's latest dashboard update.

If you had the ability to use another controller if possible to see if it's just that controller (which might actually be the case) or as you suggested you can get a wired controller (that's actually what I use, it's way lighter and better for me in games that I play) which will fix your issue.

I'm having the same issue myself, and no, it won't.
