Needing to up-size my Hard Drive and need software to do the job

Computer is stuttering and slowing. If you go to My PC it's easy to see that i have done what I thought  when i bought the comp would be impossible, pushing 931 Gb on my hard drive. So a newer larger hard drive is the only answer. Prices have dropped, so now or never. The problem is getting a bootable hard drive with the existing OS. Does anyone know of good cheap software? Probably get a SSD drive later on so will have to do this again but that can't be helped.

Thanks in advance Doug.

Hi Doug

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

Do you want to transfer over all data form that existing drive to the new drive, if so, you can use the free version of Macrium Reflect to clone the old drive onto the new drive, that will create an exact copy of everything on that drive, including Windows, all applications, settings and your personal files

Alternatively, if you want to clean install Windows 10 on the new drive, to get the best out of a new SSD, you can also do that, but you would then need to re-install all your software

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues
