DescriptionEvent ID: 1016 DCOM errors and Blue Screen error

My Toshiba 64-bit Win7 laptop is getting these DCOM errors every hour or so, and frequently BSOD's. I just applied the suggested fix (to grant Launch and Activation permissions to Network Services in the Component Services tool). However, I'm concerned that I just opened the barn doors to potential dangers. Is this the best, safest fix (and does it really work)?

Here is a copy of one of the errors from my System Event Log:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

Thanks

Answer
I normally assume that the following are USB devices (on a laptop):
- touchpad
- fingerprint sensor
- webcam
- SD card reader

Just replace all of them:
- download a fresh copy
- uninstall the current copy
- install the freshly downloaded copy
