Windows 10 Memory Diagnostics Tool

So i ran the windows diagnostics tool. At first it got stuck on 21% but i left it overnight for 7 hour and it only went to 89% of test 1 and seems to be stuck there. Should i leave it, exit and restart my pc? I have the HP Envy 23 beats edition, as it came out the factory, if that helps in any way.

Hello,

Running the Windows 10 Memory Diagnostics Tool usually takes time although the test may appear inactive, it is still running. To answer your query, we advise that you leave it as it is until the testing is completed.

That was my only concern as i left it overnight and it did not even complete the first pass and it got stuck. Only that little over more than 7 hours. at that rate it will take me days to complete more than 1. Could there be another problem?

Hi,

As the first moderator has stated, the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool would be taking its time to complete as it scans through your hardware. As it is advised to let it run overnight, it may still be stuck at certain points. We would suggest trying to remove some RAM sticks and let the tool run again. It could be possible that one of the memory sticks has an issue if the tool run without issues after removing one of them (if you're using more than one). if that would be the case, we would suggest replacing the memory in question to see if it helps.

Let us know if there are other concerns.

Hi,

Not sure what brought you use the tool however the links below may be of some help to you.

There are, perhaps, some better, more specialized tools out there for testing the RAM modules on your device. The one I've seen most often referenced is:

www.memtest.org/

Also, the link below is to a tutorial video put together by Corsair for best practices in testing RAM modules using Memtest:

www2.corsair.com/training/how_to_memtest/

(Don't let the name Memtest86 fool you, it now supports up to 2 TB of RAM on X64 CPUs).

Hope this helps and Good Luck, let us know how it goes.

-Richard
