Build 18912 Complete computer failure after update

What did you use to do a clean install?

That would be your installation source.

I would use another computer to create a bootable USB stick with Windows 10 install media on it. You can have either the current public build for version 1903, or use a site like UUP dump to create an ISO for build 18912. Delete all disk partitions and install to unallocated space, in order to take advantage of the new disk partitioning layout used in 20H1 builds (if you clean install with 18912).

No matter which Windows 10 version you begin with, deleting all disk partitions first is best. This assumes that you do not need to recover any data from the disk.

Also, if your computer has any built-in diagnostics, you can check your drive first for any SMART errors, in case it is beginning to fail.

If you have another 18912 install, you could use a 16GB USB stick and run recoverydrive.exe to produce install media (assuming the computers are matching:  both either UEFI or Legacy BIOS).

Reinstalling Windows 10 Pro, IMHO, the best move.
Provided you haven't installed anything from Insiders, I recommend you create an image and use that next time you hit a snag such as this.

Unfortunately not.  The re-imaging of the device removed the logs and data that would have been used to triage.

Sorry for your troubles here, definitely not an optimal experience.

Should you hit anything like this again, please do post up and we'll work on the log process to see how we can help!

Hi @John Hutchins ,

For someone that doesn't know how to dual-boot a Computer or have access to a Acronis True Image type program that you can make an image of the operating system with, it would save you money by sticking with the Public Release of Windows.
