Limited Periodic Scanning turns off

Hello!

I use third-part antivirus. After Anniversary Update in Windows defender is option Limited Periodic Scanning. I turn it ON, but after 5 minutes Limited Periodic Scanning is automatic OFF.  And every time when i restart my PC, i need to turn it ON.

Any suggestions?

[Moved from Windows]

Hi,

I would like to know some information.

  1. What is the name of the third party antivirus?

  2. Which security software is enabled is it Windows defender or third party one?

I would like to inform you that you can only run one antivirus at a time, if you are using third party antivirus then you won’t be able to turn on Windows defender.

I would first suggest you to turn off the third party antivirus and check the issue.

You may also refer to the Microsoft help article given below and check.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Disclaimer: Antivirus software helps protecting your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software and\or troubleshoot any pertinent issue, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to malware attacks.

Hope this information helps. Please let us know if you need any other assistance with Windows in future. We will be happy to assist you.

I use Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.0.1 MP5

In Windows Defender i need to use only Limited Periodic Scanning. SEP is default antivirus.

Microsoft says:

Enabling Windows 10 Limited Periodic Scanning <--- THIS TURNS OFF

If you are not using Windows Defender as your antivirus program on Windows 10, you can enable Limited Periodic Scanning under Settings.

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Defender.
  2. Turn Limited Periodic Scanning on.

Yes exactly, we have turned on “Periodical scanning” feature, but after every computer reboot “Periodical scanning” automatically turns off.

Hi,

I would suggest you to perform a SFC Scan and check if it helps.

Refer to the following link given below.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Note: While performing SFC Scan I would recommend you to make sure that there are no applications or programs running on the back ground.

I'm seeing te same behavior. Running anniversary edition & ESET AV. I document all settings that I use. Limited periodic scanning was enabled by me but I now find it is disabled. If I re-enable it & reboot it continues to be enabled so I'll have to monitor it the coming days. One would almost think this feature has not been tested by MS ?

Me too having same behavior with Emsisoft Anti-Malware...I think that by default this is happening that is the reason its called "limited" periodic Scanning.  Hope that MS fixes this...
