UI Scaling Issues on 4K screen in Windows 10

As others have posted, people are having scaling issues on a 4K screen with certain applications.  My issue is with Photoshop CS5 scaling too small to read the workspace icons and menus.  I researched and found a workaround to get Photoshop to appear the proper size by adding a manifest file to the Photoshop program directory.  It worked for several days, however, after a Windows 10 update today, I am back to having the scaling issue.  I deleted/re-added the manifest file but it still doesn't work prior to the update.  Also logged off several times. If you subscribe to the cloud, Adobe has generated an "experimental" fix but I am unwilling to go to their subscription model. It appears Adobe and Microsoft are blaming each other for this problem.  Changing the resolution doesn't fix this.  This also affects my various standalone plug-ins and Corel Painter.  Need help in getting this resolved.
I was able to get the Photoshop manifest file to work again.  I found that after the windows update, the registry changed after the windows update.  I went through the entire registry process and it is now working again.  However, I'm still having problems with other programs, i.e., Corel and standalone plugins.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing. Let me help you in resolving the issue.

I suggest you to disable the anti-virus installed on your computer and check.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Windows doesn't come with antivirus software, but can often detect and monitor antivirus software that was installed by you or your computer manufacturer.

The status of your antivirus software is typically displayed in Action Center.

  1. Open Action Center by typing Control Panel in the Search box from the desktop, select Control Panel, under System and Security, clicking Review your computer's status.

  2. Click the arrow button next to Security to expand the section.

If Windows can detect your antivirus software, it's listed under Virus protection.

  3. If the software is on, check the Help that came with the software for information on disabling it.

Windows doesn't detect all antivirus software, and some antivirus software doesn't report its status to Windows. If your antivirus software isn't displayed in Action Center and you're not sure how to find it, try any of the following:

  • Type the name of the software or the publisher in the search box on the Start menu.

  • Look for your antivirus program's icon in the notification area of the taskbar.

Step 2: Perform Clean boot to avoid any third party software conflict.

Disclaimer: Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

(Applies to Windows 10 as well)

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Not sure that antivirus comments is helpful with this.  My understanding is that for many folks, including me there are apps that do NOT scale well with 3K and 4K screens.

The following are the ones I have issues with:

Microsoft Powerpoint

Microsoft Skype (for business)

Adobe Photoshop (manifest file helps some)

Have no clue who to ask for help with this.  Skype in particular is painful.

Yes, I did a google search and found the manifest file helps with Photoshop which I installed (does not fix Bridge).  When Windows did an upgrade, I found that the registry changed back so it no longer worked. I then had to start the whole registry process over.  I understand Adobe cloud has a fix but I refuse to subscribe.  You are correct, the previous response regarding anti-virus missed the mark on giving helpful information regarding the scaling issue.  I'm still looking for a fix for my Corel Painter.  I think adding a manifest file would help this program as well but not sure how I should title the manifest file.  Should Microsoft be addressing this scaling issue or is it up to each software company?  If you are having problems with Microsoft PPT  and Microsoft Skype, you would think Microsoft should/would be addressing this issue.....h-e-l-l-o, Microsoft, are you listening?

My screen resolution is set correctly for my 4K Alienware 17" laptop.  I, too, have problems with Bridge, Photoshop 5 and 6 and many other applications.  This is a problem as I work with these apps everyday.  And I, too, refuse to participate in Adobe's Cloud software.  This is extremely disappointing to buy a 4K computer FROM A MICROSOFT STORE and not have it work.
