System itself causing 100% Disk Usage on PC.

Ello there, so it's just as the subject says, after fixing everything I possibly could to get my PC back into working order, it would seem that the only thing causing a problem now is System itself, as well as svchost.exe and sedsvc.exe, but mostly the System. Would anyone happen to know of a fix or work-around for this?

Hello, I see that your disk usage is constantly at 100 percent. In this case, you will need to turn off Windows Search as this feature may be the one causing the issue. To turn Windows Search off, go into the command prompt as an admin, then type in the following command:

"net stop "Windows Search"

Then hit enter. Once it prompts that the service has stopped successfully, check if the disk usage has gone down.
Hope this helps, and let me know if you have further questions! :-)

I'll give that a shot real quick, but out of curiosity because there's no post about it "Anywhere", what would happen if I Stopped the System file?

There can be many different causes for this problem. Yes, it is often the system itself causing this problem. Yes, it is often SVCHost.exe, because that is a "host" program used by Windows to run other programs.

Hello, there is no worry about stopping a crucial system file as Windows will automatically prevent and block you from doing so. If it were to slip through however, Windows will freeze, and you will have to restart your computer. Once restarted, everything should be working fine, so there is nothing to worry about!

Hi EW. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 9 year Windows MVP and Independent Advisor, here to help you.

1) See fixes here for 100% disk usage:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/fix-100-disk-usag...
https://www.kapilarya.com/fix-windows-10-100-pe...

2) Update your drivers from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

3) Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

4) If nothing else helps you can run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version 1809 which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

--------------------------------------------

But remember that in Windows 10 everything depends upon the quality of the install, and Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won't even run because they'd expect endless issues. Consider now or later doing the Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible install that will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

There is also an automated Fresh Start that reinstalls WIndows while shedding corrupting factory bloatware, saves your files, but doesn't clear the drive to get it cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Please do not mark "No" to the popup asking if this post helped you, as it will remove my ability to help you further. Just ignore it until problem is solved.

What exactly do you mean by creating an entirely new account and deleting the current one? What exactly would/will that do, and how would/will it help?

Sometimes there is a corruption in your existing user account and creating a new one is what you need to do. If you don't want to do that, then you can try the following.

Could you confirm if this also happens in the default Administrator account?

Open Start
Type: cmd
Right click CMD
Click Run as administrator

At the command prompt, type:
net user administrator /active:yes

Hit Enter

Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.

Monitor if you are still experiencing high disk usage.

Which version of Windows 10 is currently installed? See how to verify:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wik...

Another thing you can try is just waiting a while for it to subside.
