Thumbnails have small grey box with white slash

After editing a photo with photo shop elements 12, I found all the thumbnail in the same folder have an overlying grey box icon. The icon also sappears on pictures in the pictures folder that are not in a sub-folder

The file association has not changed, and I do not let adobe organise the files - but something has obviously happened.

When I look in the properties box, the same icon appears.

Does anyone know what this means - and how do I remove it please?

Many thanks.

Answer

Hi mate,

My dad has had this problem for a while. Adobe was suspect number one, since they make some crappy software. The culprit turned out to be another close-to-malware though: Norton. Go to settings in Norton and disable "Backup Status Indicators". In my dads case, the problem was gone immediately after.
