Legacy components and DirectPlay

Every time i try to enable Legacy components and DirectPlay a window pops up says that the changes have been made but to finish the installation the system needs to reboot but when i restart the computer Legacy components and DirectPlay are both not enabled.

Hi Gabriel,

Upon our research, there seems to be an issue with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update disallowing the system to enable DirectPlay and Legacy Components. Given these details, we'd like to know the current build and version of your device. Here are the steps:

1. Go to Settings.

2. Click System.

3. Click About.

Meanwhile, let's try updating your system. But before doing that, we'll need first to address if your system is trapped on 1709 version. To do this, kindly perform the steps below:

1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

                           net stop wuauserv
                           net stop cryptSvc
                           net stop bits
                           net stop msiserver

3. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

                          ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
                          ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

4. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

                        net start wuauserv
                        net start cryptSvc
                        net start bits
                        net start msiserver

   5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.

When you're done with the steps above, update your system. See Update Windows 10 for the steps. Kindly restart your system once done in that way the changes will take effect. Try enabling Legacy Components and DirectPlay and see if it will make an improvement.

The solution I've mentioned above came from one of the community members with the username jennatar. If you want to see the complete conversation when the answer was shared, see DirectPlay Can't be enabled. Look for the answer given by jennatar dated May 3, 2018.

Do reply to this thread if you still have the same concern. In that way, I would be able to respond with another solution.
