DISM-Command Prompt error 87

File Explorer was not responding so I followed Microsoft Support online instructions to run DISM to restore health - Result was Error Code 87 - again, following MS instructions to try it in Safe Mode - All I saw was a black screen with scattered icons - nothing happened for 8-10 minutes.

I used Power/ Restart and Windows opened in normal boot after a long time.

However, problem with File Explorer not responding still exists. I had been attempting to Rename a downloaded file in Quick Access when I discovered that nothing was working in F. Explorer.

Any advice? Using desktop - Windows 10 - 21H1 - 19043.1466 - Edge - 98.0.1108.43 - 64bit

Hi Klaro -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now and I'd be more than happy to help you today.

Please try to perform the troubleshooting methods below and check if any of the methods will fix your concern.

Method 1: Check for Windows Update

1. Open settings by pressing windows key + I
2. Select Update and security
3. It will automatically check for available updates, if not, click the Check for updates button
4. Download and install available updates, restart your computer if necessary and check if the issue still persist.

Method 2: Create a new user profile
- We will try to create new user profile to check if the issue happens on all windows users on your computer or just isolated on the current profile that you're using. Click the link below for the steps.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/cre...

Check if the same issue occurs on the new user profile. If in case the issue still persist on the new user profile, perform method 3.

Method 3: In-Place Repair
- In-place repair/upgrade or repair reinstall is a process of re-installing Windows without touching any of your applications or personal files. In this way if there's any data corruption, damaged system files or missing system files on your computer, this repair will fix or repair them.

To start we need to download an ISO file of Windows 10 and save it to your computer. Please follow the instruction on the link below to create an ISO file

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402819...

After the ISO is created, follow the instructions (video tutorial) on the link below created by PaulSey, Microsoft Agent, on how to perform repair install on your computer.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

This process will take some time to complete so you need to be very patient in waiting until the process completes. Once done , restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Feel free to reach back if you need any further assistance.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

Thank you,
Jerico T.
