This is Helpful Paul! Thanks!

I have two questions.

1. Will an in place upgrade require re installation of all apps

2. If I am in the Insider program, will it always grab the latest build I am set up for? Example is, I cannot upgrade to 16299 which I see available in my windows update (the update fails) and wanted to try an in place upgrade to get to that build.

1. This will not affect your files and programs

2. This is valid for Windows 10 Home and Pro edition only.

my version of windows 10 is a FREE upgrade version from windows 7 via GW10.

KB4041691 is trying to load every day and heavily slowing my computer.  it will not load because of some error

I am going through your procedures and got as far as MCT -  upgrade to windows 10 pro.

This requires me to have a windows 10 license

question: Do I have a license (for windows 10)?

Yeah.  Go to control panel, then system, you'll see your key at the bottom.

Hi

I got this link from you support agent, and this content is supposed to help me with my issue.

I have a "windows won't load" problem after a failed (and not asked for!!) windows update.

Now windows is unable to start, and the basic options available on the bootable usb I created from your link are all failing.

Your support agent offered me a remote control access to my computer, which is not able to boot. That's how well he understood my issue.

Windows is not detecting the boot sector on my hard drive (since the failed update and restart), that's why the agent I had before told me to download your iso file.

I can't afford to lose all my 500 giga of data just because windows sent me a corrupted update, which it installed without even asking for a permission, or at least asking a permission to restart my computer.

Non of the standard options are working, I doesn't want to load a restore point, nor it want to go back to the previous version, nor it wants to repair the start process.

What to do???

When you send corrupted updates, please provide assistance to reverse the issue.

My last well working windows installation is creator.

Please urgent

Thank you

Had a similar problem myself (upgrade runs every day and fails). However, the first time it failed my PC got in to a loop trying to re-install my previous version and no matter what I did I couldn't do anything. Couldn't turn it off, Task Manager, nothing. Had to call in a £100 ph expert. Anyway, what he told me to do after he had got me up and running again was to turn of the mains power which obviously closed the PC down. Then, hold the F2 button down and restore power which gave me access to factory re-boot, which works. Didn't have to re-load any other programs, all there. Must add, took quite a while but worked.

MS account logon fails so can't use to see video.  Google account did work.  Then I get error that that file does not exist.  SO NO VIDEO.

Bad bad bad.

Windows 10 performed an update over last night and this morning I could not access my computer. Clearly something went wrong because the update did not create a restore point so will not oll back. I have tried all the suggestions below and have not cured the problem. DISM.exe /online does not work and just reports an error. Sfc rums initial validation but goes o further -again repoint an error.   I have downloaded the iso ile above via my tablet but 1 annot copy it to a dvd to run onthe pc. Without windows i cannot connect to the Internet - what is the solution? Obviously Microsoft have issued an untested update (again) and I for one now have a c that may need to go to a repairer -assuming it can be recovered without losing my data and my installed applications.

Any suggestions anyone?

Here is the solution I found (In my case bootrec didn't find any OS installed!)

1/ Boot on Bios (depends on your brand)

2/ In Bios find the part where you see your boot options

3/ Create a "new boot option" - name it how you want, doesn't matter, and select your boot file on disk

4/ Define your new boot option as the first in line

Safe and reboot. Voilà

BTW, previously I had restored an earlier restore point using the win iso on flash drive. Not sure that this helped in the process, though.

Sorry if this seems confusing. Google for "How to add windows boot manager"

Since then, I disabled all windows updates and cross my fingers. Not everything is working great, but I can use my computer again, without data or application lost. Only boot time is very long.

Good luck
