Hi NotRudolf, I am Paulo. I'm an Independent Advisor and an individual like you inclined to help.

Try to perform a clean boot first
https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/929135...

If you've just recently used a third-party and removed it, it may not have uninstalled cleanly, see list of removals in this post
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/for...

If that is not the case, you can try these steps

1. Click Start, type CMD
2. Right-click then Run as administrator
3.Copy this command then press Ctrl + V to paste it in the command prompt then press Enter

REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableAntiSpyware

Let me know if this helps.

If you've third-party AV installed, please uninstall it completely and see if it resolves the problem.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Windows technical expert. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Normally, this setting is toggled via group policy so I am wondering if you may have connected your device to your work or school via the Accounts panel > Access work or school. If so, you may have glossed over the prompt that asked if "Allow my organization to manage my device" and selected Yes. Doing so can lock out or prevent certain settings from being accessed or changed. You can undo this by removing the work/school account > restarting > and adding it back (if necessary) and selecting No to the prompt.

If the above is not the case, then run regedit.exe > go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Virus and threat protection and delete UILockdown is it is present (if it equals 1, that means the "Virus and Threat Protection" panel is being hidden). in fact, you should delete the entire Virus and threat protection key if it contains any other values.

Also confirm in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender that DisableAntiSpyware & DisableAntiVirus are not set to value of 1; change to 0 if necessary and restart.

This has been happening before I downloaded an Anti-Malware (Malwarebytes). I downloaded it because Windows Defender isn't working. I deleted it and restarted my pc. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

I've seen it mentioned a few places on the WEB it could be a "telemetry" problem. So, toggle the setting at "START, Settings, Privacy, Diagnostics & Feedback" from "Required..." to "Optional" & back again....

(a) I had mine set at "Optional..." & all was well. Now I've switched it to "Required..." & nothing has changed on Defender's settings screens. Even after a reboot, all remains well.

(b) Maybe have a look after you switch to "Optional...". If Defender still shows that thing, do a reboot & look again. If it's gone, changing back to "Required" should be OK..

In my last reply, I am talking specifically about HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender. The path is slightly different than than the other locations I mentioned.
