Surface RT - Battery and charging issues??

I am having battery and charging problems with my Surface 2 (RT).  Purchased in December 2013 so just over 2 1/2 years old and never had an issue until now.  Recently it went flat in the bag and when I tried to charge it the problems started.  I have since tried everything I could from the recommended solution page, but no success.

https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-au/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/surface-wont-turn-on-battery-wont-charge?os=windows-rt-8.1&=undefined

Depending on which stage of the process to rectify the problem I am at, my device seems to revolve between "Plugged in, not charging" and "Battery not detected."  This week I contacted the on-line help team which were great to deal with but basically took me back through the same processes again.  I've now reset; rebooted; uninstalled the drivers; and re-installed updates so many times I'm worried I'll exceed my internet data!!

When I contacted the on-line answer desk support team they started by telling me it was a software issue and quite confident it could be resolved (seemed logical to me also).  However, when I followed all the steps with no success it seems the problem became too hard and their solution is now: "the replacement of the device will be the best option that we have right now since we already reset/refresh the device. This is already the ultimate resolution for this."

I'm fairly frustrated by the process and it seems given the issue and results (plus those with similar problems), that this is a software (possible update) issue as opposed to a hardware issue.  To be told I need to have the device replaced seems an easy solution but having a tablet that only works when it is plugged into the wall is also a bit pointless.

If anyone out there has any other solutions or ideas I would be extremely grateful to hear them as I’m sure there has to be  simpler solution than replacing the entire device?  Thanks.

Unfortunately I had no replies so just wondering if anyone can assist before I go buy a new computer (not Windows Surface)??

if you have done a complete reimage from a downloadable recovery image https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/downloadablerecoveryimage and still have this issue, you really have no other alternatives other than to replace the device. Sorry.

Thanks for your help Barb.  I had tried that already (a few times) but ended up with the same result.  Looks like I may have a 3 year additional warranty purchased through the store where I bought it, so I'm hoping that helps and I can buy a new device.  It won't be another Surface after this experience.

The battery in my 2013 Surface RT died and so I'm not able to do any of the things you recommended as the device won't power on.

I think Microsoft should address this issue and announce a recall of all Surfaces to replace faulty batteries.

Hiding behind a $99 "consultation" without offering a real solution is not good for the image.

I had the same problem for quite a while and then I realized the problem was with the wires leading to the connection.  I had purchased three new  ones and each one failed after a short time.  I had my son (a electrician look at it and he found all the the connectors had the same problem -One of the wires leading to the surface connection was broken. It seems like the constant plugging & un  plugging the connection weakens the wire and it breaks.  Since my son fixed (soldered) mine I had had no problems - Now if I can get the tiles for sticking, I might be able to use it.
