Close one account and use that email as an alias for another account

Hi,

I currently own two outlook.com accounts.

I would like to close the second account, and then add that email as a new alias in the first account. I don't care about the existing emails in the account I want to close.

Is this possible? Do I need to contact someone in Microsoft to make the alias available once I have closed the second account?

Thanks for any advice!

Dear RMK,

I am an independent advisor, and I am trying to help other users in Community with my experience in Microsoft products.

Accordingly to this support article https://support.office.com/en-us/article/add-or...
"If you remove an alias that's an email address from @outlook.com, it can be re-created as a new account or alias after 30 days." However please note that you can create aliases only with @outlook.com domain. If you have Microsoft account with another domain ( for example @live.com ) you will not be able to recreate it as an alias.

You may consider connecting that account to your primary account https://support.office.com/en-us/article/add-yo...

LA

So from that information, I "should" be able to :

  • In the second account (the one I don't need) :
  1. Add a new primary alias
  2. Remove the old primary alias (this is the email I want to keep)
  3. Wait 30 days

  • Then after 30 days, in the first account:
  1. Add that alias into my first account.

Would this be correct?

Dear RMK,

If you have Microsoft Account (MA1) that you want to keep using and Microsoft Account (MA2) that you want to use as alias for MA1 you can close it , wait 60 days for the closing procedure, than wait 30 days until you will be able to recreate that account as an alias. In order to skip 60 days, you can add alias to MA2 and make it primary and delete the account that you want to use as alias for MA1 and than mark that account that you no longer need for closure.

This is accordingly to Microsoft information from their articles.

Please correct your post.

It should say: In order to skip 60 days, you can add alias to MA2 and make it primary and delete the alias that you want to use as alias for MA1 ....
