unable to sign in to Outlook.com account with error message: Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.

Original title: Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.

On one of my computers - I get this message when trying to login to my outlook.com  email address.  I can login just fine on another computer - I can login on the problem computer with the mozilla browser.    But cannot via ie8  or ie9 -   I was experimenting with my cookie settings when this problem started.  And I had ie8 when it started -  I have done the fixes for resetting ie back to default setting, clearing all temp files - both by hand and with the FixIts - In the process of running all the fixits - I ended up with ie9.  Still have the issue.

I get the login box - I  put in my info -  in the address bar - it bounces several times between the login.live.com/login url - and the about blank page
and ends here with the error message
Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.

No - I did not rename my account - I can login to outlook.com  on another computer via ie - and I can login  to outlook.com on the problem computer via mozilla but not via ie.   I've aleady gone thru all the - reset ie defaults and clearing temp files multiple times and via multiple methods.  This started after I set my cookies to prompt -  and while logging into outlook.com - a cookie address came up that didn't appear to be microsoft related  so I said NO to the prompt - I do not remember the source of the cookie -  but after that i could not login to outlook.com via ie.

And I am still having the issue today - it didn't go away overnight...

thanks
Lori

Hi Lori,

Thank you for the detailed information you have given to us.

It seems that this is a browser issue since you can access your account using different computer and browser. We would need you to provide us Fiddler Trace logs and your affected email address in the private message area I created for us to investigate the issue.

Follow the steps given in the link below on how to get Fiddler Trace logs:

How to help the Hotmail and Outlook.com support team collect FiddlerCap traces

I realized that I could also  get to outlook.com  from another user profile on my problem pc via IE - which means it must have been a setting in the user profile -  I believe I found it.

I deleted the following registry key -  warning - editting the registry can be dangerous.  I happend to be a professional...

I deleted -

hkcu\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\zonemap\domains\live.com

I had also before this removed

hkcu\software\microsoft\windows\curentversion\internet settings\activities\email\live.com\disabled

but I still couldn't get in -

so it appears deleting the key under zonemap\domains did it.

i didn't need to reboot - I just tried to login again in another ie window.

reminder - my issue started after I had tried changing my cookie setting to prompt - and when logging into outlook.com - I had said NO to one of the domains that came up ....

Thank you very much. I had exactly the same problem and I have been trying to resolve the issue for about a week now. I even re-installed but kept my settings and profile to no avail. But when I made the registry edit if fixed it. Thanks again for posting your result.
