Seeing so many "unsuccessful sign-in" attempts from all over the world

Hello.

I recently checked on my sign-in history as I do regularly, and I was surprised to see that there have been so many unsuccessful sign-in attempts, mainly from America, but also from many other places around the world.

I have two-step/two-factor verification still on; is this protecting me from anyone trying to get in? Seeing all of these attempts is worrying, even if they do all say "unsuccessful".

Thank you for your time and help.

Hello, and thanks for a fast reply!

That's the page I checked, but I don't receive any notifications about any unsuccessful sign-in attempts even though I have that option selected.

I asked about that in another thread a long time ago and I was told that it doesn't always work.

As I mentioned in my first post, I have two-factor verification set-up; does that help protect against these sign-in attempts?

2FA doesn't stop sign-in attempts, however, the potential intruders have a hard time gaining access to your account. Usually, after so many unsuccessful sign-in attempts at the same time, the system will suspend your account to stop an intruder from launching more sign-in attempts

However, please be informed if you still use 2FA SMS, I personally don't recommend it due to SIM swap attacks hackers often use nowadays. I discussed more about SIM swap attacks in the following article: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/for...

Last but not least, it's also important to understand where those attackers have harvested the email addresses. It's often because the users are a victim of a data breach from one of the websites you subscribe to.  In my previous post, I've explained more about that topic and what you should do about it. So please visit In the following article: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com...

I see... When I looked at my activity earlier, the attempts were spaced-out in terms of when they happened; I've never had my account suspended because of too many attempts at the same time.

Thank you very much for your time and help, and I'll be sure to read the articles you linked.

Yes's it's highly recommended you change your password, even better to change it regularly. The best way to change the password regularly by using the password manager service as I mentioned in the following article: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/for...
