Locked out of Hotmail account after change to alternate address

I have an hotmail account.

My work email was listed as alternate, and the work email no longer is active.

I went to change my alternate email to a gmail address, and accepted the confirmation for the change. I did not realize that for another 30 days, I can no longer log in to my hotmail account.

I have critical data in my hotmail account that I need to access asap.

You still have to wait the 30 days. That's standard for Microsoft for a security change.

Greetings,

My name is Rhaine, I'm Independent Community Volunteer. I’m so glad assisting you today.
I am also a Microsoft user and I can feel the urgency in to get access to your account.

The 30-day waiting period helps Microsoft stop unauthorized people from trying to completely take over an account that isn't theirs. For example, an unauthorized person obtaining an account password through phishing or shared passwords across third party platforms. This waiting period gives the real account owner enough time to be alerted of any major changes and to cancel it if they didn't make those changes.

During this 30-day period, you'll still be able to access most Microsoft services. You won't, however, be able to do things that require a security code, like changing your password, viewing billing information, or buying new apps or games from Microsoft Store or on Xbox.
After the process of resetting your security information has started, you must wait the full 30 days for it to complete. However, if you regain access to a piece of your original security info, you can cancel the replacement yourself.

The 30 days is set by default and you can't expedite the process.

To know more about the 30-days waiting period you can refer to this link,
https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/452365...

What do you mean that you dont have any access to the Hotmail? is there any error when you try to access it ? is your work email set -up as an alias before.

Can you please try to login in this link: https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/

and check if you still have access to your emais.

Please let me know how it goes. I'll look forward for your response.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

Warm Regards,
Rhaine C.

Hello Rhaine,

thanks for the response.

I am not able to log in to Outlook/Hotmail to work with my email, on my laptop

When I input my password, to log in, the page displays this

This site requires a security code to sign in. When your security info updates on 7/25/2020 you will be able to access this site. You can still access sites such as Outlook and Skype that don't require a security code.

On 6/25/2020 you requested that your security info be replaced.

Current security info
Alternate email:xxxxxxxxxxx
New security info
Alternate email: xxxxxxxxxx
If you didn't request this, let us know.
If you'd like to keep your current security info, you can cancel this request.

If I cancel or say 'did not request ..' it only gives the option to send a code to my old alternate email, which is defunct.

I can access outlook mail on my mobile device.

Not being able to access on my laptop, with sign in, is a major roadblock.

thanks

Greetings,

I appreciate your time getting back to my email, I can feel the urgency in accessing your account , for this scenario you need to wait for after 30 to change any details on the account., this is set by default and Microsoft cannot expedite this process.

For the meantime you need to access your emails in your mobile device.

Sincerely,
Rhaine C.

Rhaine, thank you again.

This is an error, resulting from a change, executed by me.
The impact, of changing an alternate email for outlook, was not clear

  - it should have thrown a warning - you cannot log into your outlook account for 30 days.

  - since this was in error, it should give me the option to cancel the alternate email update, with an   option that works i.e. 2 factor authentication with option to provide mobile # for the code.

**** Microsoft should have a resolution for this  ****
