Emails can still be sent despite account deletion

Hi,

I closed another Outlook.com account I had created years ago for other purposes.

  1. I followed the standard account closure procedure

  2. I recevied an official confirmation from MS that the account had officially been deleted 2 months after

  3. This can be verified by attempting to log to this account ( as a message indicating that the account doesn't exist is displayed )

The problem I noticed :

  • sending emails to the deleted account's email address does NOT produce any bouce back message ( which means that the senders will still believe that the emails were delivered )

How could I solve this issue ?

Any help will be appreciated

Appreciate.

When we send a message to an account that doesn't exist, we automatically receive a message with the information.

In your case, it is possible that the account has been closed but the address is still on the servers. So I asked you to inform which message appears when you try to access the account.

There is no set time when the address will be available again for new accounts.

Since the account is closed/non longer exists, and there's no bouce message when trying to send an email to it, this is clearly a flaw within the MS account termination procedure.

How can it be fixed ?

Hello pafr1!

I don't see it as a failure because you inform yourself that the account has been closed and does not exist. What happens is that the address is still on the servers there is just no way to access it.

In this case, it is also not in use because, when trying to access, recovery options would appear.

In any case, if you prefer, and as we have public view, you will not be able to provide your account data here, so the option you can follow is to create a private support ticket requesting better case analysis, using an account that receives emails . Access the page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/concern/Account...

And if you still have any questions, please reply with the details to help you out.

Hi Gema,

The fact that there is no bounce message when sending an email to a deleted account's address clearly is a failure from an account termination standpoint

-> if people are trying to reach me on an address that longer exists, and they receive no bounce message, it looks like the address is still valid ( while in reality, it isn't )

I'll have a look at the form you provided to raise a ticket

Thanks
