Removing students from Assignment lists that are no longer in Team

I inherited a class from last school session and some of the class members have now left the class / school.

I have edited the Team members list to reflect this but have found that when I set an assignment they magically reappear on the Assignment list!

I cannot get rid of them - it looks like I have 6 team members who never do an assignment!

How can I delete them from my class team and all links!

Hi SeonaidDobie,

I'm Nik, an independent advisor here to assist you with this.

Ideally, when you remove a student form class Team members, they will not appear in future assignments. However, they will appear on any past assignments where they were associated with.

To verify this, I have done a quick test at my tenant and I see that the behaviour works as expected.

Please make sure that you remove a student from the class as described in the following article:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/remo...

Feel free to let me know if you have any question and I will be happy to assist.

Regards
Nik

I have already edited the Team as you described.... and checked it since your advice... I still have former students appearing in my assignment list.

Hi SeonaidDobie,

It looks like your MS team is refreshing to reflect the changes.

I would suggest you manually restart the app by right-clicking the icon in your taskbar (Windows) and selecting Quit. After you quit, click the app icon to open it again.

I hope this will helps.

Regards
Nik

Is there any further resolution to this issue?

I have a student who withdrew from the school in October 2020. She has been removed from class rosters per the Microsoft Teams instructions for removing students. For all assignments assigned after she withdrew, though, she is still listed in the assignment, so it looks like she is not submitting any work.

If a student is no longer on the class roster, why are they included on the assignment roster?

I am having this issue as well. I have tried all the things mentioned in this post, but still, students who are no longer on my roster are showing up in assignments.

I have tried the things you mentioned, and I still see students who are not on my roster in my assignments page. They are being assigned current assignments.

Hi, I have tried everything you have suggested too. It means that I am not able to allocate out work to all the classes together as it sends it to other students who are still in college, but not in my class.

What else can I do?

I discovered that completely deleting a student from the system so that they do not appear under assignments can only be done by account administrators, not users. After seeing many solutions to the issue, I brought up the problem to our school account administrator and he was able to delete them.

Poof--- no more lurkers in your classes! I hope this helps!
