The real important thing in this article is right at the beginning regarding your MS Account - or more specifically, the need to create one if you don't already have one - that's really the starting point.

Step 2: Sign in with your Microsoft account, or create one if you don't have one. Be sure to remember this account so that you can install or reinstall Office later, without a product key.

*** while MS is going to allow you to create a account using a non Microsoft email address (i.e. Gmail or whatever), I would strongly suggest using an Outlook.com email address. BTW, if you already have an Outlook.com email account, that is also an MS Account so just need to use that - can explain more about that if you want, just ask)

Now, once you have your account and then go to office.com/setup, you'll encounter the screens as shown in the attached screenshot where you'll be able to enter your product key

Happy to say my problem went away. The first 3-4 times I logged into Microsoft I was never asked for a product key. The last time it asked me for a product key and Office was successfully installed. Never logged into site before today. Don't know what I did wrong but problem solved.  Thanks

See if you can sign into your Office Account at: https://www.office.com/Myaccount You need to sign in with the same email address and password for the Microsoft Account that you used when you setup your Office 2019.  From there you can reinstall your Office at any time you like and as many times as you like.  You will not need the Product Key again to install Office. BUT keep it safe as it is your proof of purchase.
