Why is edge running in the background after copilot installation?

As the title says, I was wondering why Edge is running in the background after Windows Update installed and I disabled Copilot from the taskbar. Edge's settings right now are like this:

Sidebar: disabled

Show Bing chat on sidebar: disabled

Startup Boos: disabled

Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed: disabled

And now I found this running in the background with the browser closed:

That's not even the browser's updater service. I stopped the task and it opened itself again a few minutes later.

As if the fake widgets I don't like or use are always running in the background despite many things I've tried, now I have Edge using system resources for no apparent reason.

Please help me find a solution to this problem.

Someone created a recent discussion thread on the r/MicrosoftEdge subreddit reporting the same bug:

Please, we need updates from Microsoft on the issue, and a fix is required ASAP.

Another thread on Reddit asking why and reporting the same issue:

Please fix this mess. It's very annoying and unacceptable behavior.

I am getting a bit tired of this stuff running in the background that I do not use and apparently does this by default. First it was Edge browser which I never use, but noticed one day in Task Manager several threads of Edge running. So I disabled that because task manager actually indicated High resource use. If what I read is true Copilot is another mess that tries to add itself to the startup apps.

The answer is simple: no. And that's the problem.

Any of that makes no difference, mate. This is a shameful issue that needs to be acknowledged and fixed soon. It should be a top priority for MS Edge (Chromium), Windows OS devs, or both communicating with each other about this bug.

Sadly, it made no difference. I have disabled all the things that can possibly keep Edge open, and even disabled it in the startup part in Task Manager, which to my surprise wanted to open like 47 instances, but no, it still remains open after you close Edge, and also reopens itself sometime later.

I'm starting to believe this behavior is not only related to copilot, but the widgets as well since (I think) they use Edgeview to work.

Yes, widgets are also part of the problem.
