What is "Feature on Demand for X64 (.NET 3.5)", and why do I need this update that was installed this afternoon (5-13-15)?

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10 Technical preview.

Since Windows 10 Technical preview comes with .NET Framework 4.5, there might be some application which require .NET Framework 3.5 component.

So, I would request you to provide us with the update KB number.

You can follow the steps to check for installed updates.

1) Press Windows + X and select control panel.

2) Open the "Programs and Features" if you are in Icon view. This will open a list of all the programs installed on your computer.

3) Open the list of installed Windows updates. Click the "View installed updates" link on the left side of the window. This will open a list of every update that has been installed for Windows.

I got this update too! Can't find any description and there is no KB!

Agreed,  I followed the instructions in the first response, and there is no KB referenced or record that it was installed at all.  I have no problem with the installation but the title is mysterious.  I was just wondering what this is about.  There is a TechNet reference to this but it doesn't really explain to me why I need it.

I'm guessing it has something to do with Windows Updates from alternate sources. 

(choose how you download updates - PC's on local network... etc__)

since .net 3.5 can be installed via the add windows software parts this update is pointless.

i would be more interested in .net 4.5 since that is what some programs ask for to get installed. so they dont install anything at the time.

yet win10 comes with .net 4.6 and no 4.5 seemingly.
