Recently purchased a new laptop and have been having frequent crashes with BSOD.  Issues are usually displayed as

Other issues have popped up:

VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR

Example 2 dump file

There are some smaller dump files about 326kb, but I get file is undreadable errors when trying to upload them.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Let me help you.

If you see an error message VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE with blue screen (BSOD), it indicates that driver related to Graphics Card stops responding or malfunctioning. At that point of time system will restart automatically to prevent data loss and to restore the things to their default.

The most common reason for this issue is that due to incompatible graphics card drivers or graphics device is being overloaded beyond its capabilities. Please check and ensure that your system is running with latest Windows 10 compatible graphics card drivers. Follow the below mentioned steps and see if they helps.

Try updating the Graphics card drivers from device manager and check if it helps:

  • Open run command by pressing Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and hit Enter.

  • Spot and expand the “Display adapters”.

  • Right click on the Graphics card driver and select “Update Driver Software”. When it prompts to choose an option How do you want to search driver, then go with Search automatically for updated driver software. If you have a driver available on your PC, then select Browse my computer for driver software, then select the appropriate location, where the driver located on your PC for updating it. (Ensure that PC is connected to Internet while performing this step)

  • Once this is done, restart the computer to check the problem fixed. If it doesn't fix the issue, then Right click on the same driver and select “Uninstall” then restart the system and let the system install the driver automatically on Start. Check and see if it resolve the issue. (Recommended step)

Check if it helps.

Also I suggest you to install all the pending updates issued by Microsoft and check if it resolves the issue.

Keep us posted on the issue. We will be happy to assist you accordingly.

Attempted updating drivers.  To my knowledge, drivers are fully up to date, and still causing BSODs for some related issue:

Current specs:

2 Display drivers:
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 - driver date 12/15/2015 - version 20.19.15.4352
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - driver date 3/21//2016 - version 10.18.13.6472

Scanning for updated versions of both tell me they are up to date.

I uninstalled both, separately, and together, and still was receiving crashes.

System specs:
Acer Predator G-791
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @2.60GHz
16.0 GB
64-bit Operating System running Windows 10

It seems to frequently have the crashes for awhile after waking up from sleep or initial startup.  Then may work well for quite awhile once the crashes stop.

I ran a memory diagnostic - no memory issues were detected.

What else might it be?

Hello,

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1: Try to boot the computer in Safe mode and see if the issue still persist.

Safe Mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers.

Please refer below link on how to boot computer in safe mode.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2809468

Note: To exit from safe mode, restart your computer and let the Windows start normally.

Method 2: Perform a Clean boot.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Disclaimer: After troubleshooting, refer to this section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting".

I also suggest you to refer the below Microsoft article and check if this helps.

Troubleshoot blue screen errors

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/troubleshoot-blue-screen-errors

Please install all pending updates on the computer. Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or enhance your computing experience.

Hope this helps.
