My Surface Pro 4 battery life is terrible

This is a joke.

The battery on my Surface Pro 4 drains so quickly its unbelievable, within a minute it dropped from 25% with 50 minutes left to 20% with 38 minutes left. I've been looking online and apparently its something to do with one of the Windows updates.

I need good battery life for school, that's one of the reasons I chose it and Microsoft have just spat in my face with this 'update'. Is there any solution for this? I bought it this July from ebay unfortunately, and it cost me all the money I had. So unfortunately there's no option to revert to a previous Windows 10 on settings, which I tried to do. What can I do?

Thanks a lot, Microsoft.

there is speculation that an update for firmware in early August caused this,
but there are other reports before this update as well. if you are able to
return this to the seller, I encourage you to do so. there is a reason people
put these on eBay (usually something is wrong).

if you open an administrative cmd prompt and run

powercfg /batteryreport

and upload the entire html file it produces to OneDrive and share a link in a
reply, we can look at battery health.

If this is a used computer, you should wipe and reimage it (although it probably
won't fix your issue). Please run the battery report before doing this. Go to
(with a different Windows computer if yours is not working properly)
and download a recovery image for your Surface. You will need a 16GB USB stick
formatted FAT32 (use a Windows computer).  Best to purchase and use a new,
previously unused USB stick for this. Use FULL format and not quick format and
give the volume a name like surfboot.. There are full instructions and a video

I have the same issue. Battery drain no matter what "tricks" I use - enable/disable "connected standy" - doenst solve the issue, surface diagnostics (and the whole process) - doesnt solve the issue, shutdown /s trick - doesnt solve the issue. Surface is dead after 2 days off - always.

PLEASE HELP!

You have a different issue - it is being discussed here under different threads
like "Surface Pro 4 drain while shutdown". Microsoft has not acknowledged this
issue either and so far, no one has come up with a working fix.

I have absolutely no problem with my Surface 4 until about 1 week ago. Battery drained out very fast.  From 90% to 74% within 2 minutes.  Battery also dropped when it is shut down.  Another time, the battery level did not moved from fully charged 100% and suddenly, dropped to 70%+ (after 1/2 hour).  The battery is getting "crazier" each day.

I am always on the move and I need a reliable battery.  Please help.  Even your virtual agents could not help.

Hello:

This is unacceptable option: reformat (re-install OS) and start from scratch.  This would take way too long.  The reason the device was purchased was for flawless usage.

Microsoft created the issue, Microsoft must create a solution other than formatting and starting over.

Please provide a Microsoft solution that doesn't destroy existing data.

This devices is vital to our success.

that was a reply to a specific customer who bought a used computer from eBay. it is always proper advice to wipe and reinstall in cases like this. and if you buy on eBay, you really can't be sure what kind of problems the device might have.

yes, there are far too many reports of battery drain and nothing official from Microsoft.
