Skype Desktop Version 8.37.0.98 cannot make calls (Windows 10)

Since updating to version 8.37.0.98, I am not able to make calls.

Each time I try to call a number, Skype hangs up and displays the message "Missed call".

What is the solution to this?

Hi Declan ,

I'm Dan, an independent advisor, here to help the community with issues that may be experiencing.

Please try the Windows Desktop Version of Skype and see if this helps (you are currently on the App version):-
https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/

Select the drop down arrow and click 'Get Skype for Windows' instead of 'Get Skype for Windows 10'.

Hi Declan,
I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

A. If this is UWP Skype app of Windows - Windows Key+i > Apps > Click Skype and Uninstall
CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to invoke Task Manager > Kill any instance of Skype.exe
Windows Key+R
Type %appdata%\skype > Enter
Rename Skype folder to something else say Skype_Old
Install Skype again from Microsoft Store
OR
Choose to install desktop client of Skype from https://go.skype.com/windows.desktop.download

B. If this is Skype for Desktop client - Uninstall Skype and reinstall Skype Desktop client
CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to invoke Task Manager > Kill any instance of Skype.exe
Windows Key+R
Type %appdata%\skype > Enter
Rename Skype folder to something else say Skype_Old
Reinstall Skype again from https://go.skype.com/windows.desktop.download

Do let me know if you have any more question or require further help.
Sincerely yours,

So far I have this problem with:

  • Skype for Windows 10 desktop
  • Skype App for Windows 10
  • Skype for web

I do not have the problem with the Skype App for iPhone.

Regards.

If you are calling on a landline/mobile number, your Caller ID may be the problem.
Some people block incoming calls from callers with unkown Caller ID's. Try to enable Caller ID by following these steps:-

1. Sign into your Microsoft/Skype Account here:-
https://secure.skype.com/portal/overview
2. Under 'Manage Features', Select 'Caller ID'.
3. Select your country and enter your mobile number in the appropriate boxes.
4. You should then receieve an SMS to verify the number.
5. If all goes well, the Caller ID should be activated within 24 hours.

or if you have a Skype Number, after step 2, you can simply select your Skype Number as the Caller ID.

Have you been calling the same person? Are you able to call the Echo Sound Test? I'd double check by calling more than one person if you haven't done so already because it sounds like the other contact may have either blocked your caller id or as a contact.
