How to revert back to old hotmail ID from outlook.com

I tried to create an @outlook.com alias but ended up changing my hotmail id instead.

I want to revert back the change and get my old @hotmail.com account :( :(

After the change, I got and email informing me about it and telling me that in case it was incorrect  I should access:  https://account.live.com/
I tried accessing Account Settings -> Overview -> Update email -- but it doesn´t allow me to revert back to my previous email ID

I want to revert back to my old hotmail ID... please help.

Answer
Hello!

Most likely the problem you're having is that you cannot rename because you current have an alias of your old Hotmail address.

To clarify, when you rename your account your old address (i.e. *** Email address is removed for privacy ***) automatically becomes an alias and your new account (i.e. *** Email address is removed for privacy ***) becomes your account login.

In order to change back, you will need to first delete the alias of your old account. Go to https://account.live.com/ManageAssocIds, locate your old alias and then click "Remove." Once you've done this you will be able to rename your account to your old address. This can be done at https://account.live.com/ChangeId.aspx.

Please note that after 30 days your original e-mail address goes back into circulation (and can be taken by another user). So be sure to go back to your old address within one month of deleting it as an alias.

If you continue to have problems, please post the exact error that you're encountering when you try to revert back, and I will do my best to assist you.
