I have always been able to download and install Windows updates until yesterday (11/12/14). I have an HP G72 laptop. It is a few years old and received little to no use until October of last year. I have not installed any new software on it in the last year. I am using ESET NOD32 4.2.67.10 as my anti virus. I have no other malware, adware, firewalls, etc, installed and never have. The laptop is running Win 7 x64. I researched the error and ran the Windows Update Diagnostic Tool (WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab).
I can successfully check for updates and I am prompted to install 12 new updates (65.6MB worth). These updates are the following...
KB3003057 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB2978120 Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Wikndows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
KB2991963 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB2992611 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB2993958 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3002885 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3003743 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3005607 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3006226 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3010788 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB2952664 Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
KB3008627 Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems
I've tried DLing 1 or more, in different orders, after reboots and full power-downs. Each time I receive the same error. I've run System Restore and restored back to a point a few weeks ago, my earliest restore point. I am still unable to download and install these 12 updates.
The Update Diagnostic Tool tells me that:
Windows Update error 0x80070057(2014-11-13-T-04_30_23P) - FIXED
Service registration is missing or corrupt - FIXED
Problems installing recent updates - NOT FIXED
I am looking for a logical solution that can be applied with relative ease. I do not own a Win 7 install disk and am not willing to factory restore (or reformat) this laptop at this time.
Thank you!
