Windows 10 Small Freezes/Hiccups/Lag Spikes

Hello,

Ever since I upgraded to windows 10, I noticed that my system would have these small hiccups where the sound would freeze and the display would stutter for a split second. Its really random and happens when I'm gaming/watching a video. If it were to happen when I'm not doing those things, I wouldn't even notice since there is no sound or fluent display that would indicate a freeze has happened, so I can't tell for sure if it happens when idle.

It's quite annoying, even tho it's not really serious at the moment, but I fear it might be hurting my computer.

Am I the only one getting this? Is this simply a bug that could be fixed with an update? Or can I fix this myself by fiddling with a few settings?

Thanks in advance for all answers.

I'm having the same issue ever since I switched to Win10. Never had anything like it before.

My video drivers are up-to-date. And so is every other driver I can think of. And the Adjust the appearance and performance of the windows thing just ticks everything on, except "Save taskbar thumbnail previews" and "Shadow under mouse pointer".

I had the same problem. After hours of disabling processes and services and updating drivers I realized it was happening every time the wallpaper changed... disabling the slideshow fixed it for me... really Microsoft? As if the sound bugs weren't enough simply having a slideshow active is making my laptop borderline un-usable. You really needed to do a lot more QA before releasing this version of Windows.

1. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 by the automatic Microsoft downloader

2. I have an ASUS laptop: ASUS G750JZ-DB73-CA

Hello. I think I found solution. I hope it works for you.

* Power Options  -> Balanced/High performance (doesn't matter which one, but I recommend balanced

-> Change plan settings for one you choose (Balanced/High performance)

-> Turn off the display and Put the computer to sleep -> Never

                              -> Change advanced power settings

* Power settings  -> Wireless adapter settings -> Low Power Saving (just don't leave it at Maximum Performance )

-> PCI Express -> Off -> this option is must for desktop PC

Just this tweaks worked for me.

Same problem for me. Using Windows 10, I noticed a glitch or slight freeze for a stutter second about every 30 seconds...After much investigating and disabling processes too, I found that the stutter was happening every time my slide show wallpaper changed. Disabling the wallpaper slideshow fixed it, just like with you.....but that doesn't exactly fix the problem completely, because now I can't have wallpaper slideshows.....

I have an Nvidia 940M graphics card.....I can't tell if the problem is from Windows or from the graphics card, but it's pretty dumb not to be able to run a slideshow.....
