UPDATE 02/12/21: I appear to have solved the issue and it came from the ethernet adapter on my ASUS HERO XXII WIFI. The 5g NIC has caused this issue for nunwrous people. After swirching to the second ethernet port everything seems ok.

Thank you for all the responses.

Not sure what event would indicate the source of the problem.

I have the same problem, windows closing without any warning after today's windows update.

I followed all steps until:

"For clean boot follow the steps below:"

I can not continue because MSCONFIG closes without any warning too.

I have same problem, last night the following updates were installed (KB4601319 & KB4601050) and now, when opening any program, after a few seconds it closes without alert. spotify, cutter, vscode, vmware tested... chrome and discord works fine.

The installation of the updates did not generate a restore point, fortunately directx was installed two days ago and it did. The control panel tool for restoring to a previous point also closes after a moment. I had to restore from boot by restarting the computer holding "shift" key. This solved my problem. i cancel automatic updates for a while.

I can also confirm that I'm having the same issue when KB4601319 has been installed.

After the update programs will no longer stay open. After some seconds they will disappear without warning nor give out an error message.

MS Problem Reports shows that the programs "Stopped working".

The only way to get Windows 10 working normally again is by uninstalling KB4601319 and hiding the update.

This is very annoying!

My setup:

Edition Windows 10 Pro

Version 20H2

Installed on ‎31-‎May-‎20

OS build 19042.746

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

I seem to have solved what is causing the issue. I changed to my 5gb ethernet and that is what caused the problem. I found other people having tha same issue somthat is what made see if it was my problem. I switched to the second Intel adapter and the problem appears to have gone away.

That IMO is only a workaround...... if indeed your system is now stable.

Mine has been running perfectly since May 2020 but not with KB4601319

I haven't a clue where to look for as a starting point. It's difficult to debug as most programs and windows disappear after a few seconds.

Same exact issue.

Apps work in safe mode but not otherwise.

Reported this to msft earlier this week when it first occurred. Got an update again today and here we are again.

Seems like KB4601319 has issues and needs to be pulled and fixed.

Do you by any chance have Asus GPU Tweak 2 installed? Try closing that program and then try opening what you want again. This worked for me.
