"GfxUI has stopped working" error...

Original title: PLEASE HELP!!! "GfxUI has stopped working" error...is this affecting my IE display?

Hello,

I have seen another conversation about this on these forums (seems to be answered by "ankit9j"), but I need more information, please. . .

I have Windows 7 running on a (otherwise) well-working Toshiba Satellite computer.  A couple of months ago, I began getting the same error message, "GfxUI has stopped working__" upon system startup.  But it would always disappear (seem to "self-resolve") almost as quickly as it appeared.  And I had not noticed any problems with my system until lately. . .  I am trying to redesign a few webpages (picture albums) of mine, but the changes in html code and pictures are not being displayed on my computer.  However, the changes apparently ARE being saved in the website's "edit" screens, and if I view the webpages on someone else's computer, the changes actually are being displayed.

But I really need to use MY computer.  I have cleared my cache and even logged out / logged back into the user's area of the website, but nothing works.  Is this problem consistent with the error message, "GfxUI has stopped working__"?  I should also say that I have started running into a vew incidents of the error message, "Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to shut down__" while online.

If the answer to the above is "yes," and I need to follow the steps provided to fix it, I have 1 more question:  By uninstalling all of these programs, will I lose certain programs, files and settings on my computer that are VERY important to me. . .such as my Windows Live Mail (numerous e-mail conversations there with detailed information that I use daily and can't afford to lose) or Windows Live Contacts or Pictures or Documents or Favorites, etc.?

Thank you SO MUCH for your help!

P.S.  Below is the excellent information provided by "ankit9j". . .

Solution:

1. Open Control Panel|Click 'Uninstall a Program' (Programs and Features)

2. Look for Microsoft .Net Framework in the list and Uninstall them all (restarting the computer each time it tells you to)

3. Once they are all gone, open the Uninstall a Program (Programs and Features) again and click Turn Windows features on or off on the bar on the left

4. You'd get another window on and you need to uncheck Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1 from the list and click OK

5. Proceed with it complete uninstall and restart the computer (when it tells you to)

6. Open the 'Uninstall a Program' (Programs and Features) again and now look for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and uninstall all these as well.

7. Restart the computer and open the Uninstall a Program (Programs and Features) again and click Turn Windows features on or off on the bar on the left and place a check on Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1 (it would be a blue square and not a check) and install it again

8. Finally, download & install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package from Microsoft's website
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

You won't see that error again, provided you have a proper security package (antivirus & firewall) installed. I use Computer Associates Internet Security 2010 which, as per their website, are offering $10000 coverage if your system gets infected after you have installed it!

Hi,

You can follow the solution provided you should not lose any personal files or functionality. As a precaution back up personal files/data before attempting to troubleshoot follow the steps in the link below to back up data:

I don't have the 3.5.1 ... I have 4 for Client.  Does this make any difference?  I get that same error message but frankly, I just ignore it.  I just now repaired the .NET 4 and am about to restart it and will check and see if the repair feature used will stop the "GFxUI has stopped working"" by using the repair function that was offered along with the uninstall.  What DO these things actually DO anyway?!  IF you answer that question, consider that you are explaining it to a second grade kid! LOL

I have so many of the C+++ files it's flat weird! They start out with a 2005 Redist.with some updates for x64 and x86 (and some KB fixes for those) and then a 2008 Restrib for x64 and x86, Version 9.0.3, followed by a few days later, KBs and an ALT update kb.  I have NO idea if I should keep those older 2005 versions or what.  Should I keep them, delete them or leave them all alone?

Also, if ANYONE uses Comcast cable modem ...do NOT download it if you use WINDOWS 7 (maybe not for any OS) .... it did something very strange to my keyboard by adding a driver to it!  Something from Strikeforce Technologies appeared, uncertified, in the properties sectino of my keyboard under Device Mgr.  I got rid of it, then got rid of the "free" Norton Security Suite that was offered, and presto!  My keyboard works again perfectly.  Prior to this, it made EVERY SINGLE key, even the symbols, into NUMBERS!  Each key would have a value of 0-9 or if you hit the same key 10 times in a row, it would go 1,2,3,4 tc til it got to 0, then it would start over again!  WEIRD!

I think, therefore I get into a LOT of trouble! ~ T.Reed 1991.

I'm also having the gfxui error, but my error information makes no mention of .NET framework at all...
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled .NET framework 4 a few times, to no avail, same with all the intel drivers, and its making it so I can't use my tv through my hdmi cause without being able to change things in graphics properties, the picture is cut off quite a bit on all four sides and I also need to change the resolution and what not.

Here is my error info, any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Due to the age of this issue, it would be best to create a new thread for this.

Doing so will avoid any confusion between your issue and that of the original poster.

Best regards,
