Error 0x80070141: The device is unreachable. (Windows 10 Pro and iPhone 6S Plus)

I get the error message when I tried to download / import / copy my photos and videos from my iPhone to my computer.  (Didn't have this problem before?????????)

Symptoms and attempts to correct it:

  1. After connecting the iPhone, the choices for AutoPlay pops up.  I tried importing it through Windows Live Photo Gallery, opening File Explorer and copying them, etc.  None worked.  Same error.
  2. I can see the files showing up in file explorer.
  3. In file explorer, if I right click a file and then click "Preview" or "Open", a window pops up giving the above error message and also there are 3 buttons in the error message window.  They are "Try Again", "Skip", and "Cancel" - if I keep clicking "Try Again", it will come back to this error message window but it will momentarily flash another window - it looked like a progress window of which the computer is trying to load that file - I want to Open it not load it??? - to a location "JUNSJC2J" ... this would happen for all the files I tried to open/preview if I keep hitting the "Try Again" button.
  4. If I hit the "Skip" button instead, it will briefly flash another progress window with the same attempt for that location ... but if I hit "Skip" the SECOND time, it pops up a new error window (and does not go back to that original error message window) of titled "Explorer.EXE" and the message reads { Windows cannot find ". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. } - WHAT?????????

Also, I tried completely erasing iTunes and all Apple software and then reinstalling iTunes AGAIN numerous times - same error message ...  arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

It looked like something is wrong with the file system and Explorer.EXE??????

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

Hi Roger,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing currently.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

  • Are you connecting the phone wirelessly or through USB to the computer?
  • Are you able to upload photos from other devices?

Firstly I suggest you follow the methods below and check if that helps.

Method 1: Run hardware and Device troubleshooter

  1. Click on the Start button, and type “Troubleshooting” on the search bar.
  2. Click on troubleshooting, then click on “Hardware and sound”.
  3. Under Hardware and sound, click on “hardware and devices”.
  4. A pop-up will appear, click on the “Next” button and your hardware troubleshooting will start.

If method 1 doesn’t help try method 2.

Method 2.

Refer: "If the PC can’t find your device" from the link given below and check if it helps.

Method 1:

After method 1, this is the result:

As such, I am not sure if the above is "helping" or "not helping"??

Method 2: PLEASE DO NOT DIRECT ME TO STANDARDIZED SOLUTIONS.  I have seen that particular link numerous times during my research.  Furthermore, I specifically stated that I can see the files showing up in File Explorer in my point No. 2 above - which essentially answer the "IF the PC can't find your device" question.

Also, I want to state that when I said "Didn't have this problem before?????????" - it means that it used to work in Windows 7 Pro.

One more point I want to add is - make that point 5 after my 4 bullet points above:

5. Same / Identical issues with both my desktop (Windows 10 Pro) and laptop (Window 10)

Please note.
