Disk Read error occurred. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart

Well this is aggravating me, so hopefully someone can help me out.

Came home and was advised that the computer won't start. Turn on the computer and after the initial loading, it states "Disk Read error occurred. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart.", and it just repeats itself

I removed the battery from the laptop to see if that would work, and it didn't. Put the Windows 7 disk in the computer to see if it can be repaired and it get stuck on "Now loading windows" with the same noise occurring. Took the hard drive out of the laptop, hooked it up to an enclosure to see if I will be able to at least be able to scan it. Once hooked up, went to my computer and  "RECOVERY" & "Local Disc :L" shows up. I was able to right click on Recovery, go to Properties >> Tools >> Scan but when I try to do it with Local Disc: L, it states that if I would like to format. Went to the hard drives manufacturers website to see if I can use there diagnostic tool (Toshiba), and it won't allow me to scan from my computer. Tried Seagate Tool and it wouldn't do it either.

Question is, am I able to save this hard drive or am I just better off replacing it?

Answer
Answer

Here are a few of options:
- Connect the disk to some other PC (e.g. by putting it inside an external USB case), then see if you can access its files and folders.
- Install one of the numerous partition recovery tools you find with Google to see if some partition is recoverable.
- Put the disk into the fridge for an hour. (Yes, this appears to work on some disks with physical damage!)

If none of the above options work then you have to treat this sorry event as a harsh reminder that all important or irreplaceable files must be backed up regularly (e.g. weekly) to an external medium.
