Windows 7 failing to start

Hi all,

I ran windows 7 upgrade while running vista about a month ago and everything was working fine until recently windows failed to start.  I've retreived the "Startup Repair diagnosis and repair log" and it appears to be clean.  If anyone has any idea as to what the problem may be/how to resolve it please let me know!

note: I also have ubuntu on the same hdd and that loads fine.

Thanks,

Michels10

Startup Repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem.

Hi Michels10,

Were any changes made to the computer recently, such as new hardware or software installed?  What error message do you receive at startup?  You can try System Restore back to that date.  You may also try Last Known Good Configuration.  Restart your computer and tap the F8 key until you reach the Advanced Boot Options menu and select Last Known Good Configuration.  Let us know if this helps.

Hi Dena,

My apologies for the delayed response. I have definitely tried the safe mode/last known configurations. Both of these resulted in the same error message. I've managed to copy the error message and here it is:

edit: I've tried system restores/backups and no hardware changes have been made.

Hi Michels10,

Try the troubleshooting steps in this document, Bootrec Tool.  You can also try running a SFC scan.  Let me know if this helps.

Dena,

Thanks for the reply.  Within the recovery environment I was able to run command prompt as an admin from the C drive. However, running the bootrec/sfc scans didn't help.  I can navigate to the upgrade file that I used to originally upgrade my computer but it wont let me upgrade because I am running it from a recovery environment.  It would appear that I need discs to restore my OS but I do not have them. Is there any way I can get them?

Note: When I ran bootrec /ScanOs it said that it could not find any operating systems.  I'm not sure how this is possible being that I am in windows RE. (proving that I had windows).

Thanks,

Matt Michels

Dear mam ,

your suggestion to repair 0x0 is right but some cases this is not working unless you format or create a new partition ...
