SMS Delivery Failed

Earlier today I received an SMS message on Skype from my medical provider wanting to confirm my appointment for next week.  Attempting to confirm, I replied "YES" to the prompt.  Unfortunately, when replying with this, I get a "SMS delivery failed" message:

I even tried "Yes".  :P

This occurs with Droid, Windows, and Web.  I can send SMS messages to other numbers just fine.  So why am I not able to confirm my appointment with Skype?

Hi Mike,

My name is Therese, an Independent Advisor.

If I may ask, did you receive this SMS text message on your US Skype number? Is this a regular mobile number?

For testing purposes, please take note of the mobile number, and manually send the SMS text messages (not by replying to it).

Thank you for your reply Therese.  I received this message to my Skype number which I have been able to send/receive SMSs without issue until this incident.

I tried to send directly, but when I create a new SMS via the dial pad the same issue occurs. :(

FWIW I did try sending SMS from my cell phone and that works (that is, it didn't bounce), but they are expecting a reply from the Skype number.

Hi Mike,

I apologize for the late response.

Have you tried sending an SMS text message to a different mobile number such as your number?

No worries Therese.  And yes, this is what I meant by "I can send SMS messages to other numbers just fine" in my original message.

I suspect that this number is not supported by Skype. But, you may try contacting Skype support directly to have this confirmed.

Unfortunately, here in the Skype community, no one has access to the users' accounts. You can contact them via live chat. Please use the link below:

You may experience a longer wait time due to the COVID-19 situation.

Kind regards,

I appreciate the thoughts, Therese, but unfortunately, I do not understand.  How can a number not be supported by Skype?  Is that a known issue?  Is there a page/resource you could point me towards for more information?  I paid for this number as it has SMS support and can be used as a cell phone (that is VOIP of course), and all the resources I have seen say that it works just like a cell phone (from what I understand).  Even my own experience has shown the SMS to work well with numerous numbers/contacts.

It would seem that if a number is not supported there would be more information around this, but more specifically, in Skype, if an SMS delivery fails, there should be more information on why.  I know you can't really do anything about that Therese, but I just had to say it. :)

FWIW I have reported this thread to the Skype feedback tool.  Not that it does me any good with my current situation. :p  I also do appreciate the link to support/chat but I have never had any luck with those.

Is your doctor's mobile phone from one of these providers?

https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34828/how-do-i-send-sms-text-messages-in-skype?q=send+sms

If you’re sending a text to someone located in the USA, only the following carriers support receiving Skype SMS text messages: Alltel, AT&T, Cellular One Dobson, Cellular South, Centennial, Cincinnati Bell, Nextel, Ntelos, Sprint, T-Mobile, Unicel, U.S. Cellular®, Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile USA.

Is your doctor's mobile phone from one of these providers?

So I poked a little online and from the results, I found it's a landline.   It's an 844 number, so I don't think it's a cell phone.  It's a scheduling app so probably going through a service like Twilio.

Some additional information from Skype other than "SMS delivery failed" would be incredibly useful.  Something like "This number is on the abc network and is not supported by Skype" would go a long way towards figuring out why the message failed so that I don't have to jump on here to bug you all. 😅

I did a search for "SMS delivery failed" but it does not seem to be on that page, Nercindo.
