Continental 7

How do I get the number seven, with a slash across the middle on my keyboard?
I use it in handwriting, and while I know it's generally used to distinguish between a 1 and a 7, it shouldn't be necessary in computer type, I like it, and it's a v.small part of me.
Thanks
Ideally, you'd use a font that displays the number that way (e.g. Bradley Hand ITC, Forte, Magneto). Although you could format the character with a strikethrough instead, that's less than ideal.

Hi
Thanks for that.
Only prob is that the fonts you suggest are script fonts, and while I often use those for informal stuff, i often use Arial as it's clean and tidy, and when you need to reply to a utility company, or Virgin etc, it looks more official.
The strikethrough is as you say, less than ideal.
I was hoping to find some printed work that used the continental seven, in a 'normal' font, then I could just save it.
But thanks again for taking the trouble to respond, and I'll use one of them informally, hoping that someone somewhere has a piece of text I can save.

You could check out the fonts that are available through 3rd-party sites. However, if you use one of those, there's no way you can ensure the recipients of your files will see the same formatting unless you embed the font in the file (and some fonts don't allow that whilst those that do will add to the file size). As for emails, etc. that's likely to be a lost cause...

You could use an EQ field to overwrite a hyphen on a 7 e.g.
{ EQ \O(7,-) }

use CTRL+F9 for the brackets.

Thanks Graham
Being lower on the scale than a technophobe, I wouldn't have a clue where or what an EQ field is....LOL!
And while my son is an IT expert, my pride stops me from asking him.
If you have the time, a tutorial would be welcome.
Plus, just to ask, as someone else has pointed out, while it would look fine on my screen, will recipients see the same?
Thanks again.

To create the field braces (i.e. '{ }'), simply press Ctrl-F9. Then insert the field code (i.e. 'EQ \O(7,-)') between them and press F9 when you're done. The result is a field that displays a strikethrough 7 (i.e. essentially the same as you'd see if you formatted a 7 with a strikethrough), but a whole lot less useful than a true 7 (e.g. you can't 'Find' it in a document) and limited to Word.

There are instructions at http://WordFAQs.mvps.org/CombineCharacters.htm. And yes, recipients will see it just as you do (assuming they have they font you use).
