Page Borders in office 2013

I,m making an event program in word 2013 and need to place a border around one column of a two column page. I can only get a border around the whole page. Please infoem if you can help

Since you describe this as an "event program," I'm guessing that what you're actually doing is using columns to simulate pages. You don't have to do this!

In the Page Setup dialog (Borders tab), in the "Multiple pages" dropdown, choose either "2 pages per sheet" or "Book fold." The result will be a simulated page half the size of the paper you are using. You can treat these pages just as you would any other page, using page borders, headers/footers, page numbers, columns, etc.

If your program is a single sheet front and back, you can probably get away with "2 pages per sheet" (provided you make the cover the last page), but if there are more pages, you'll want to use "Book fold." When that option is selected, you create the pages in the natural order, but when you print they are printed in the correct order for creating a folded booklet.
