Multiple copies of the same image - how to save space

I've looked at an XML format Word document.

I've put in 1 copy of an image. The file size would be 50KB for example.

If I take the same image and make 10 duplicates in the document and save, then the file size becomes 500KB.

Why??

Why isn't it possible to have one copy and have pointers to the one image copy in other places?

Surely that wouldn't be rocket science to do?

Thanks

Omar

Answer
Answer
  1. To bookmark the original picture, select it and click Bookmark in the Links group on the Insert tab.
  2. Type a bookmark name (it must be a single word but can include capital letters and/or underlines).
  3. Now select the References tab and click Cross-reference in the Captions group.
  4. Select Bookmark as the "Reference type" and Bookmark text for "Insert reference to."
  5. In the bookmark list, select the bookmark you just created and click Insert.
