MS Word 2013 Markup

Hi Community,

I wanted to know how to stop markup within a document from showing up every time you open it?

I switch it to final view to hide them, but, when I open the document again, it still shows the markup.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance.

To get rid of the markup, click Review | Accept | Accept All Changes. Then turn off the tracking (if it still enabled) so that no new changes are recorded. See http://shaunakelly.com/word/sharing/howtrackchangesworks.html#HowToRemoveTrackedChanges.

Did that but the document keeps opening up and showing the comments.

Thanks for the helpful tip though. Appreciate it. :)

If you don't want the comments to appear, delete them.  Running a macro containing the following code will do that:

Dim acomment As Comment
With ActiveDocument
    For Each acomment In .Comments
        acomment.Delete
    Next acomment
End With

After running that, save the file with a different name if there is a likelihood of your later needing to access the comments.

Hope this helps,

Comments must be deleted separately, as Doug wrote in his reply. You can do it via Review tab | Delete | Delete All Comments in Document.

In Word 2013, it's even easier because there is a menu item to "Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking."

Actually I don't want to delete them becasue it's a public document and is needed for reference amongst other readers that rely on that information.

I'm not to keen either on the idea of deleting comments and saving as a separate document. I was hoping to achieve a much more efficient approach where I could turn it off and it would stay off until someone else turned them back on.

Thanks again for the helpful input. I will definitely take this into consideration and keep in mind should the need to use this tip come up in the future.

Thanks for your input Stephan but like I mentioned to Doug, was that it is a public document that will be circulated and viewed by others so I need them.

I was rather hoping for a more efficient approach where I could turn them off and have them left off until the next reader decides to turn them back on again.

Unfortunately, for some reason or the other, even after I've followed your initial step, the comments automatically keep coming up when you reopen the document.

It's the default in Word to (re-)display markup whenever a document is opened. You can change the behavior, but only on your system, meaning you can't control what other people see if you send them the document. There is a privacy aspect here: if you can't see the comments yourself, you may inadvertently send comments to others that you don't really want them to see.

As I wrote in another reply, accepting (or rejecting) changes doesn't affect comments at all; they must be dealt with separately.
