Report Id: 85478fc8-5c34-11e4-898f-889ffaf506c6"

It happens with various word files und with various adress sources. It is driving me mad since i really need the mail merge function xD

Any ideas?

The issue seems to be with OLE DB. Would it be possible to use another connection method? For example, if your data source is in Excel, perhaps you could use DDE instead? In order to have a choice, you have to check the box for "Confirm file format conversion on open" at File | Options | Advanced: General.

I'm not suggesting that as a solution, just a temporary workaround.

I did so, but not getting results neither. After choosing the DDE Word tries to start Access in the background and after a few secs Word is telling me that it couldn't establish a new DDE connection.

But i can open Access standalone without any problems.

I did a "online repair" of my office package. But even after having done this, the problem still maintains.

Okay, assuming that Access is the data source, does it have a setting (as Excel has) to "ignore other applications"?

If the data source is in Access, in Access, open the table or query that contains the data and then on the External Data tab of the ribbon, click on the Word Merge item in the Export section.

Of course, if you are using the data to create mailing labels, you can do that all in Access via the Labels item in the Reports section of the Create tab of the ribbon.

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried to do so. Access then opens Word and Word immediately "stopped working" and is closing. Again the same result as if i would try to connect from Word.

I think this time the following are the corresponding error log files:

first this one was generated:

"Faulting application name: WINWORD.EXE, version: 15.0.4657.1000, time stamp: 0x540ee5da

Report Id: 05a6be8f-5cff-11e4-a0cd-889ffaf506c6"

and a sec later that one:

"Faulting application name: WINWORD.EXE, version: 15.0.4657.1000, time stamp: 0x540ee5da
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18247, time stamp: 0x521ea8e7

I start to believe that it might be a hardware problem..? Since not even the "repair online" function of office - which actually does re-install all the office software - could help..

Could it be a hardware problem?

Where (in access) would this setting "ignore other applications" be?

I didn't find this while starting the mail merge wizard from access.

to sum up: OLE DB doesn't work. So doesn't DDE. OLE DB causes Word to "stop working" - no matter if i start it out of word or out of Access, while DDE out of Word runs Access and then Access tells me that "unfortunately this didn't work" (see pic), i should restart Access and that i should repair Office if the Problem keeps appearing. (sorry, my office is in german..) So far i do not know how to choose DDE connection out of Access, but I guess i would get the same result..

So it might be a general problem of the interface Applications?

I don't have Access 2013 (or even Excel 2013) installed, but in Excel 2010, the option "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" is at File | Options | Advanced: General, but it's probably irrelevant, anyway.

As a work-around, try exporting the table\query results to Excel and then use Excel as the data source.

Just a guess:

Assuming that you have the 64-bit version of Windows, I wonder if  youhave a mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit Office programs.

In particular, if you have 32-bit Office, then I believe that Word will try to use the 32-bit ACE OLE DB provider to get its data from Access and Excel. But if you also have the 64-bit ACE OLE DB provider installed, the 32-bit provider may fail. The 64-bit provider might have been installed as part of some other non-Office product.

Right now I cannot provide a simple approach for checking which versions of the provider(s) you have, but you may be able to research that yourself.

Awesome! You are right, i have the 64bit Win7 (which i knew of course), but i didn't realize that i got office in the 32bit Version installed. So you think it's worth a try to uninstall the 64bit OLE DB?
