Grey Page Color

My pages in Word 2013 appear grey, I know that they will be white when printing, but is there anyway to change the page color to appear white?  I am in college and can't see the colors for some of my assignments properly with the grey pages.

As a rule, the color used for the page in Word is the color defined as the "window color" in Windows (at least in Windows XP and earlier--I've been unable to figure out exactly how this works in Windows 7). Do you have a grey background in other application windows?

If not, perhaps a page background has been applied? This would not be true by default, but perhaps it has been added inadvertently. On the Design tab, in the Page Background group, click Page Color and select No Color. Does this help? If so, you'll need to make the change in the Normal template. The easiest way to do this is as follows:

In Word, press Alt+F11; the Visual Basic Editor opens. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. In that window, type

     NormalTemplate.OpenAsDocument

and press Enter. Normal opens, but note that it may not be on top of all windows. You can close the Visual Basic Editor. Make the desired changes to the Normal file, and then save and close it. If the changes you have made have not been recognized as changes (the Undo button is not activated), press Spacebar, then Backspace to "dirty" the file, thus ensuring that the template will actually be saved.

I agree with Suzanne, your problem is probably due to a Windows setting rather than a Word setting.

As well as the actions in Normal, you may want to try simply renaming (not deleting) your current NORMAL.DOTM to see if the problem goes away when Word regenerates it.
Find Normal.DOT / Find Normal.DOTM

The links above show a few different ways of finding normal. Here is one more:

In Word, press Alt+F11; the Visual Basic Editor opens. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. In that window, type (or paste)

     Application.NormalTemplate.OpenAsDocument

and press Enter. Normal opens, but note that it may not be on top of all windows.

What view(s) is this problem in? Have you tried other views?

Try going into File menu > Options command > Advanced option > Show document Content section.  Change the current setting on "Show Background color ... ".

Could you paste a screen capture here for us to look at.

The site owners have listened and made the process of posting images easier (but not easiest, yet).  The link above details the process.

The replies are HTML files, you cannot paste images directly into them like a Word DOC(X) file. Instead you have to provide, in one form or another, a HTML link to a picture file that is available on the internet.

In short form, the image must be in PNG, JPG, GIF, and BMP format.  Use the “Add Image” button that is on the same line as the “Bold”, “Italic”, “Underline” feature buttons.

So, you will first have to save screen captures to a file on your HD or the internet, ie skydrive, before you can insert them in the discussion using the “Add Image” button.
