Endnotes in Word

I have a large number of documents created with Word 97. These documents have endnotes. In that version it was possible to view the main text and the endnotes simultaneously, the former in a window on the top half of the screen, the latter in a window on the bottom half (with adjustable sizes). I can't figure out how to get Word 2013 to do the same and will be grateful for any advice.

You can display the endnote pane in Draft view. Word 2013 removed the Draft view icon from the status bar, so you have to use View | Views | Draft to change the view. You will then be able to use Show Notes in the Footnotes group on the References tab.

One caveat about Draft view in Word 2013: It would appear that use of a draft font (Courier New by default) is the default for Draft view in Word 2013 (at least, I'm pretty sure I haven't intentionally enabled this option). Disable this, if you choose, at File | Options | Advanced: Show document content.

Also, if you want to save and open the document in Draft view, you need to check the box for "Allow opening a document in Draft view" at File | Options | Advanced | General.
