Borders around equations don't match the borders around nearby text

I have been writing a math textbook for quite some time using Word.  The latest version (2013 on Windows 8.1) has messed up my borders around text that contains equations.  Specifically, I will have something like

words words words

Centered equation on its own line

more words

There is a border around this paragraph, but the left and right border on both sides of the equation (inserted using the equation editor) are pushed "outward" another inch or so.

Any clue on what I can do?

I have attached an image for reference.

Also, I should note the paragraph settings here.

As well as the equation settings.

And the borders settings.

Can you show us screen shots of the horizontal ruler with the selection in the text and with it in the equation.

Alternatively, if you send me a document that displays the problem, I will investigate the issue.

You can decipher my email address from my signature or obtain it from my profile.

Hope this helps,

Hi Doug,

Let's try the screenshot first (I could send part of the document, but the screenshot is a bit easier right now).

Your screen shots show that your paragraphs are indented 0.5" each side, whereas the "Math on its own line" setting does not include these indents. What happens if you change those?

That did not work. I will send an email with a snippet of this textbook attached to Doug.

Hi Doug,

Unfortunately, the method of using AutoText to insert Textboxes will not suffice.  I want to have the ability to adjust the formatting of the 100's of Theorems, Examples, and Definitions on the fly (e.g., by using Styles).  The AutoText method will only insert text, but not allow me to retro-actively adjust minute formatting details of everything created using that feature.

This is a bug within Word 2013 that was not there in 2010, 2007, or 2003.  Could we report this as an issue?  Specifically, we need to report that equations (centered on their own line) ignore indentation settings and thus are useless inside text with borders.

In the meantime, I will adjust the indents of my bordered Styles to 0" in hopes that there will eventually be a fix.

Thanks again,

Roy
