Outlook 2013: Inbox not showing count of unread emails & Send / Receive issues

My Outlook 2013 was working fine for about a couple of months until a week ago when it stopped automatically sending / receiving messages on all my accounts (two Hotmail accounts and two work email account using POP/SMTP).  I would have to exit out of Outlook and reopen it for the emails to send / receive.

Then that problem went away for my Hotmail accounts (maybe because of an update on Office 2013 that I installed yesterday).  However my work email account Inbox does not:
(1) update unless I click "Send / Receive" or click when I click Inbox after first clicking on another folder or deleting an email
(2) show count of unread items even when the Inbox contains several new unread emails

Any help on resolving this issue would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I have been having this problem for months.  Sometimes when I open Outlook 2013 using Windows 8.1, if I have new emails in some of my subfolders there is no # beside the folder name to tell me there is new email.  So I close and open Outlook a few times and then the counts finally show up.  In my Outlook I have an Exchange account configured and a POP3 account configured.  I also have a co-worker as well that has the same version setup, I don't believe he has a POP account setup, but does have an Exchange account configured and has the same issue.

I am going to try a Repair on my Outlook installation and see how long it last for and will post an update in a few days.

I did exactly that (remove the account and add it again) and it fixed the problem. However, other users have reported they have successfully fixed the problem but after a few days it appears again. So, I will not be celebrating yet.

Hi there.

I'm not sure if this will hold, but I had the issue with no count of unread emails beside my folders.

I use this heavily - I have a lot of rules that classify my emails, and knowing what's new is important.

So, I tried to do something that I know fixed some issues in IE at some point : disable hardware acceleration.

Since then, my count of unread seems to work.

(Options > Advanced options > Display.  I'm not sure of the exact labels as my Outlook is in French)

Let us know if it fixed your issue as well.

Good luck!

Zolt

Thanks Zolt. Unfortunately, in my Outlook that box is not clickable, it's been grayed out. Perhaps my IT department has disabled it, they keep everything tightly controlled.

Either delete and add the account, or right-click and properties work, temporarily, I think the right-click option is the easiest.

Thanks,
