Spurious vertical lines in tables

I get, from time to time, vertical lines in table columns. In one case now, the line is 1/2 inch from the left table border, and goes down, breaks up, and then continues an inch later and continues to the bottom of the table. These lines can occur in other pages too, in the same table.

I can usually get rid of them by doing I don't know what, but now, I am stuck, in spite of saving and opening the file again.

I do not know what these vertical lies are, how/why they appear. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hans L

Do they appear just in certain cells and only where there is text? Possibly they could be bar tabs?

Thank you, Suzanne, for replying.

The lines appears only in certain cells, but in the same place (1/2 inch in from the left).

If I click Home > Styles > Normal, the lines disappears, but returns when I click in the table.

The "line" in one cell is actually a few shorter lines with spaces between.

Not sure what a bar tab is, but I have cleared all tab setting, and it does not help.

Hope you have some suggestions!

Hans L

OMG, they are track change marks!!! I am so darn sorry! I am also sorry that MS has not figured out a good place to put them in tables :-(

Suzanne, I feel terrible having wasted your time. Thank you for always being here, helping those of us who are sometimes clueless :-)

Best regards,

Well, I thought about change bars, but it never occurred to me they'd occur inside a table rather than in the margin. I guess it's not possible to get everything right. Users complained about the position of change bars in newspaper-style columns, and I think there may have been complaints about tables as well. Sounds like this isn't an improvement!

Suzanne, with fierce competition, it seems like most resources are spent on the next version (with its glitches) and less on cleaning up existing versions. But you would think this is not a difficult thing to fix.

Well, maybe you can tell 'em!?
