Print preview in word 2010 will not display documents when scrolling from portrait to landscape.

I have a document that contains both portrait and landscape orientation. When I click on file > print, and scroll through the pages in the preview mode, it will stop at the last portrait page and will not go to the next page, which is landscape. If I exit the preview mode and go to the landscape page in the regular editing mode, then go to file > print, it will start in landscape mode and will transistion to portrait with no problems. But it won't go back to landscape once I scroll to a portrait page.

How can I get the print preview to view all the pages without having to close out of print preview, or switch the orientation just to vew the remaining pages?

Stefan,

Thanks for the reply but I'm not looking to adjust the margins on the document. Just trying to figure out why the pages in landscape mode won't show in print preview.

I believe Stefan's reply was intended for the thread at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-word/force-narrow-margins-on-all-doc-files/c08986a1-78fe-4007-8e14-76224e2d923d.

I tried to reproduce your problem in Word 2010 running on Windows 7, and, at least in my dummy document, which had three sections (portrait, landscape, portrait), I had no trouble scrolling through the entire document in Print Preview. What was your Zoom setting in Print Preview? Instead of using the scroll bar, did you try using the arrows on the status bar?

If all else fails (and you just want to be able to preview the entire document easily) you can add PrintPreviewEditMode (classic Print Preview) to your QAT and use it instead.

Yes, my reply was intended for that other thread. I see now that Doug Robbins has replied there, so I'll just delete my reply here. Thanks.

Ok, so it turns out the the document that was sent to me has a margin of 1" on top, 1" on bottom, 1.5" on the left, 1" on the right.

In the print preview mode, I can switch any page from 'Normal' margin, then back to custom margin, and view both portrait and landscape in print preview normally. Is there a cache or a setting that can be changed indefinitely for all my documents? This is happening to multiple documents by the way.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying. You're experiencing the problem just with the custom margins?

That's correct, the problem only happens with documents that have custom margins.

If I go into print preview mode and don't change any properties, it will not scroll from a portrait page to a landscape page.

But...

When I go into print mode, and change the margin to normal and then back to the custom setting, it will scroll from portrait to landscape with no problems. Odd right?

That is indeed very odd.  I've duplicated your setup (1.5" margin on the left, 1" for the rest) but still can't reproduce the problem. Can you post or send a document that exhibits the problem? You can send it to ssbarnhill at gmail dot com.

I can't replicate it either and I would send you the document but it is classified. I do have a work around, just was hoping that there was a fix so I don't have to keep switching the margin back and forth.
