Insert handwritten signature into Word document

I wrote my signature on a piece of paper. I used my HP All in One to scan it into Adobe Acrobat and then saved that as a .jpg file.

I then inserted that into a Word document but it takes up too much space and if I shrink the box around the signature, it also shrinks the signature.

Is there something else I can try? Maybe save the file as another file type?

I'd like to have my signature take up only the amount of space that a line of typed text would.

I've used the "scribble" option on the "shapes" button but it's kind of messy looking.

Any ideas?

If there's a lot of space around the signature, you can crop it so it takes up less space without reducing the size of the signature itself.  If you have a way to edit the JPEG itself (outside of Word), then that would be preferable.

You may also find it helpful to insert the image Behind Text, which allows text to overlay the blank space. You'll still need to leave some space between the complimentary close and the typed signature (if any), but this allows the signature to fit more naturally between them (just the way a handwritten signature might overlap the typed text.
