I am unable to use the insert button in WORD.

I am unable to use the insert button in WORD as I was able to with the 2007 version.  I used to turn on Insert and it would allow me to type right over the previous words. It does not allow me to do that in the new Word program.

Word 2010 ships with the Insert button disabled. Go to File | Options | Advanced: Editing options and check the box for "Use the Insert key to control overtype mode." Alternatively (or additionally) you can add this functionality to the status bar. Right-click on the status bar and click on Overtype to check it. You will now have a status bar item that you can click to switch from Overtype to Insert, and, even if you use the Insert key instead, the status bar will reflect the current setting. This can be handy if you inadvertently hit the Insert key when aiming for Backspace or Delete (an occurrence so common that it is doubtless the reason for disabling the Insert key in default installations of Word).
